#DLGGujaratConnect | VIAGRA Manufacturer – “Pfizer” shuts Aurangabad & Chennai units in India, impacting 1,700 jobs

MUMBAI | AURANGABAD | CHENNAI | NEW DELHI | AHMEDABAD | RAJKOT –  Following a thorough evaluation of the Aurangabad (Maharashtra) and Irungattukottai (Tamilnadu) plant, Pfizer Ltd has finally decided to shutdown the two facilities in India, on grounds of long-term loss of product demand, making manufacturing at this sites “unviable”, the three page handout handed to employees read.

Shutting down of two facilities in India will directly make an impact on the jobloss of 1,700 employees, DATELINE GUJARAT learns from an equity analyst tracking Pharma Sector.

Aurangabad and Irungattukottai (IKKT) sites will cease manufacturing with immediate effect and the company intends to exit both sites as soon as possible in 2019, the handout statements read.


EXCHANGE COMMUNICATION MISSING

The company has yet not filed any regulatory communication related to shutdown of two facilities with the Indian Bourses.

Despite the fact that share of company are listed and traded on the Indian Bourses, investors were not intimated about the shutdown through stock exchanges till Tuesday, 08th January, 2019 – late night, even after the matter was communicated to the employees.

Both units being fully export oriented in nature – Aurangabad and IKKT facilities have received US FDA (Food & Drugs Administration) observations in past in year 2013, 2015 and 2018.

However, the exact timing of the sites to be closed completely is yet to be decided, as the company is also considering the sale of site & assets at Aurangabad and IKKT facilities.

The announcement however does not make any “DIRECT” impact on the other manufacturing sites of the company in India at Goa, Vizag and the joint-venture facility –  Zydus Hospira Oncology Private Limited (ZHOPL) at Ahmedabad, the communication read.

The company in a 3-page handout communication to the employees has clearly worked the exit formalities of the employees systematically and has assured the employees of same to get addressed by January 14, 2019 – Monday.

Most of the employees at Aurangabad and Chennai facilities have been asked not to come to work, except those who have been instructed by their respective team-leaders to be a part of system and equipment shutdown, the communication read.

Employees have also been asked to carry out the procedure to be followed, to carry away their personal belongings which shall be communicated to them through SMS and Email in scheduled manner.

The Company has continued hospitalization insurance cover given to the employees till December 31, 2019, the communication read.
