Suzuki’s second plant in GUJARAT to start soon : Toshihiro Suzuki

MAHATMA MANDIR (GANDHINAGAR) – In his address to august gathering at MAHATMA MANDIR venue foe VIBRANT GUJARAT 2019, Global Investors Summit, Suzuki Motor Corporation’s President Toshihiro Suzuki said of starting second plant of Maruti Suzuki soon in Gujarat.

In a press release issued on January 18, 2019 the company had already said of having kicked-off ops at second plant.

“Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG), a 100% subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation for the production of automobiles in India, has completed construction of the Gujarat Plant No.2, and started production of the Swift from January 2019,” the release said.

1.Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, good morning

I am Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corporation.

First of all, I would like to express my hearty congratulations for the successful launch of the 9th Vibrant Gujarat Summit graced by Prime Minister, His Excellency Mr. Narendra Modi.

2.Automobile industry is now entering a phase of great changes.

Above all, we fully recognize the challengeto reduce CO2 to prevent global warming.

We are tackling this issue from variousangles.

As one of the solutions for CO2 reduction, we decided to introduce electric vehicles in India in 2020.

We are road testing fifty electric vehicles in India to develop such product that is convenient and really delightful for Indian customers.

3.In order to reduce CO2 further, it is crucialto fully utilize existing technologies in addition to electric vehicles.

In the Indian context, we firmly believe that hybrid and CNG vehicles are the most effective solution, with fastest results.

Especially, it should be pointed out that hybrid technologies are evolving at a rapid pace.

Suzuki will introduce cutting-edge hybrid vehicles aggressively with technical support from Toyota Motor Corporation.

4.Ladies and gentlemen,

Suzuki is making investments in Gujarat on a continuous basis.

The first vehicle assembly plant of Suzuki Motor Gujarat was inaugurated in September2017.

The second plant will start shortly.

We plan to commission the third assemblyplant in 2020.

After three plants in operations, annual production capacity of Suzuki Motor Gujarat will be enhanced up to 750,000 units.

 Also, its my pleasure to share with you thatan engine and transmission plant is startingproduction shortly, which enables us to bear fruit of integrated vehicle manufacturing in Gujarat.

Gujarat is becoming more and more important as a production site for Suzuki group.

5.Manufacturing plant of automobile lithiumion battery is under construction in Hansalpur.

In addition to lithium-ion battery, we will localizeother components required for vehicle electrification.  

Since the technologies for hybrid and electric vehicles have similarity, we will first localizecomponents of hybrid vehicle and followed by electric vehicle.

In this approach, we will realize Real Make in India in the field of vehicle electrification as well, which surely helps the further expansion of Indian automobile industries.

Together with an enabling policy support from the Government of India, we can jointly think how to scale up our investment and depth of localization.

6.Ladies and gentlemen

I would like to end my speech by making a promise.  We will continue to introduce cutting-edge technologies in India, along with Make inIndia concept, and contribute to sustainable mobility solution for the society.
