SOUTHERN PETROCHEM resumes commercial ops @ Tuticorin Plant

TUTICORIN | CHENNAI | MUMBAI | AHMEDABAD-GANDHINAGAR | RAJKOT – In a regulatory update submitted to the Indian Stock Exhanges, Chennai headquartered Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (SPIC) Ltd said of having resumed commercial production of Urea and Ammonia as per planned schedule, all its plants have restarted operations successfully.

In a company statement as submitted to the Indian Bourses, the company said that SPIC has resumed commercial production of Urea at 11:45 hrs IST and Ammonia at 19:30 hrs IST on 3rd November, 2019, at its Tuticorin plant(s) in Tamilnadu.

The statement further claimed of Urea and Ammonia both plants, the production is expected to return to full capacity in the next few days.


The plants were shut down by the management as per the schedule for regular maintenance and up-gradation work and replacement of the Urea reactor about a month ago.

Stamicarbon, Netherlands, the world leader in the design and development of urea plants for the fertilizer industry supplied the new urea reactor to the company.

After the successful dismantling of the old reactor, the erection of the new reactor was done smoothly with due safety of the plant & equipment, environment and the workers.

A thorough quality check for the new urea reactor and other maintenance work was completed before commencing commercial production.
